About

Tommy Adkisson was born in San Antonio in 1949. He is married to the former Miss Karen Barbee and the couple maintains an active lifestyle, focused around their shared interests and in serving the community.

Tommy is well-known and regarded for his public service, but he is also a student of history and thoroughly enjoys sharing his extensive knowledge of Texas history and Bexar County history, in particular, with his constituents, friends, and family. As Texans, native and new, Tommy believes that we are the fortunate heirs to a very rich historical legacy. It is for us to study and profit from history’s many lessons.

As much as he loves to talk about the eight separate battles or skirmishes that Bexar County hosted to liberate us from Spain and Mexico, he knows that there are many other local historical points of interest worthy of our attention. Just as an example, the Governor’s Palace, seat of our provincial government as the Capitol of Tejas, the largest collection of Spanish missions in the US, and the East Side Cemetery Complex, which is chock full of local history along with the many other cemeteries that exist in Bexar County. The list of areas worthy of study and preservation goes on. Tommy believes there is a lot to gain in studying the past, both the good and the bad.
